VNA HealthCare Recognizes Opportunity House
Opportunity House of Hamden was honored for delivering Meals on Wheels in the greater Waterbury area for more than ten years by local home health care agency VNA HealthCare.
Opportunity House was founded in 1980 by a group of parents who were looking for better home-like alternatives for their autistic children. Opportunity House operates three group homes and one apartment facility, with the primary focus being to assist their clients in developing to their fullest potential and to achieve an optimal quality of life at home and in the community. In 1993 the first employment program began, serving eight of the residents and then in 2002 expanded to include the other residents in both paid and volunteer opportunities.
The awards were presented by Ellen Rothberg, President and CEO of VNA HealthCare, at the annual ceremony held at the Elizabeth Park Pond House in Hartford. Elaine Wollenberg and Tom Page have been delivering Meals on Wheels for about ten years to the VNA HealthCare clients in the Cheshire area. Susan Wright, Volunteer Coordinator, said, \\"Both Elaine and Tom really enjoy the opportunity to help out on a weekly basis. They are thrilled to be able to bring some joy into the lives of others by delivering meals to those who depend upon them.”
