Farmington Resident Jean Petersen Honored by VNA HealthCare
Jean Petersen of Farmington was honored with a Rose of VNA Award from local home care agency VNA HealthCare. Five mornings a week, Jean makes the commute to Hartford to help in any way she can, using her computer skills and great attention to detail to help in the Independent Living Services department.
Jean Petersen began volunteering at VNA HealthCare in 2003 after working for 25 years for the Community Renewal Team. It was through a CRT volunteer placement program that Jean was connected with VNA HealthCare. She has brought her aptitude with figures to the Fund and Meals on Wheels offices at various times. Very often Jean can be found creating reports for the annual flu clinics and compiling Meals on Wheels information.
When asked, Jean says that volunteering here is special because of all the ways VNA HealthCare helps the community. For her, volunteering keeps her connected to the community too. And she says it brings a sense of newness to her too, by giving her the opportunity to meet new people and learn new things. She says this commitment to volunteer her keeps her active and adds to her life.
