West Hartford Counselor Volunteer Karen Brown Honored
West Hartford resident Karen Brown received a Rose of VNA award at the annual VNA HealthCare volunteer appreciation event held April 28 at the Elizabeth Park Pond House, Hartford. Along with volunteering her time with VNA HealthCare hospice, she has served as a Bereavement Support Group Facilitator at Jefferson House in Newington for the past two years. The January, 2010 issue of Newington Life featured a story on this group.
Her patience, understanding and empathy allow her to help those who are grieving move through the grieving process. She gives them the tools needed to cope appropriately in their sorrow. The end result being continuous love for their loved ones, although they are no longer here. She works with the bereaved to allow them to see that moving on and enjoying life with family and friends is very important to their healing.
Karen has an M.Ed in counseling, is a licensed professional counselor with the State of CT and has a private practice located in West Hartford.
Additionally, Karen serves as a volunteer at Hartford Hospital in their Palliative Care unit. In this role, she provides emotional support to patients and families who are faced with terminal illness. Karen recently joined the Board of Directors of the Village for Families and Children, Hartford.
VNA HealthCare values Karen’s compassion and skills as part of our Hospice team.
