Ellen D. Rothberg Receives CAHCH Award

HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, NOVEMBER 13, 2008 –West Hartford resident Ellen D. Rothberg, RN, BSN, MPH President and CEO of VNA HealthCare received the prestigious Judith Hriceniak Nursing Award, Excellence in Nursing Leadership from the Connecticut Association for Home Care and Hospice (CAHCH) at its annual meeting. The award recognizes a visionary role model in the development and implementation of innovative projects that positively affect the home care environment, a leader who inspires others in creating an environment that fosters development and lifelong learning and collaborates with groups within the agency and community. Rothberg was named president of VNA Health Care, Inc. in June 1998.  She has more than 30 years of service in health care, including acute care, community-based, and home health settings. Prior to joining VNA HealthCare, she worked in the Boston area as a nurse at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She then moved into community health care as a nurse at Columbia Point Health Center, which led to her going back to school to receive a Master’s in public health from Yale University. After Yale she returned to Boston and started one of the first adult day health programs and the first Alzheimer’s day program. She moved into home health and eventually became Vice President of Home Care for North Suburban Health Systems and Executive Director of the Malden Visiting Nurse Association in Massachusetts. She currently serves on the Visiting Nurse Associations of America Board of Directors.   Ellen graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, and from Yale University with a Master's degree in Public Health.
