VNA HealthCare To Hold Pneumococcal Vaccine Clinics


Local home care agency VNA HealthCare will hold pneumococcal vaccine (PPV) clinics at Suburban Pharmacy, 344 North Main St. West Hartford. The two walk-in clinics will be on Thursday, March 26 and Thursday April 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state you are at increased risk for pneumococcal diseases if you are 65 years of age or older. Those under 65 who have heart, diabetes, kidney or lung disease, certain types of cancer or immunocompromising conditions are also advised to receive the PPV vaccine.

PPV can be given at any time during the year and is 60-70% effective in preventing serious pneumococcal disease which most commonly presents in the lungs (pneumonia), blood (bacteremia) or brain (meningitis).

VNA HealthCare accepts the following insurance for the pneumonia vaccine: Medicare Part B, Aetna and Anthem Managed Medicare, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna cash or check. The PPV vaccine is $57. No appointment is necessary.
