Greater Waterbury Nursing Consortium May 13

WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT – The Greater Waterbury Nursing Consortium, a group advocating the role of nursing within the community, invites all local nurses and nursing students to attend “Can Nurses Live Happily Ever After?” in honor of National Nursing Week. This free event will be held on Wednesday, May 13th from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Fine Arts Center Mainstage Theater at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.

“The goal of our group is to serve Waterbury and its surrounding communities by focusing on nursing as a profession of first choice,” stated Peggy Moffitt, event coordinator. Moffitt stated that the May event, the seventh to be hosted by the Consortium, will focus on connecting with the joy – and the humor – that’s to be found in nursing.

“Can Nurses Live Happily Ever After?” will commence with an hour-long reception during which attendees will enjoy light refreshments and entertainment.

The highlight of the event will be an entertaining and thought-provoking presentation by Anne Belcher, RN, PhD, motivational speaker and Director at the School of Nursing at Johns Hopkins University. Belcher’s presentation will help nurses identify the humor in nursing and will help them make a personal commitment to incorporate humor into their professional and personal coping “toolkit.”

The evening’s festivities will conclude with the presentation of awards to area nurses and nursing students who use positive humor to boost both colleague and patient morale.

Light refreshments will be served. Nurses and nursing students must register for this free event by calling (203) 596-8777, faxing (203) 596-8793 or via e-mail to langellottic@wcsu.edu by Friday, May 1st. Please indicate your name, phone number and the number of seats you are reserving.

The event’s sponsors include: Naugatuck Valley Community College; Saint Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury; UConn Waterbury; VNA Health at Home, Watertown; VNA HealthCare, Inc., Waterbury; Waterbury Hospital; Waterbury Public Health Department; and Western CT State University at Waterbury.
