Bridge of Life Jewish Hospice Conference

VNA HealthCare invites the public to learn about Jewish end-of-life issues at the “Gesher Hachaim” Bridge of Life Jewish Hospice Conference. This free event will take place on Tuesday, May 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Mandell Jewish Community Center, 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT. “Understanding Judaism’s perspectives toward life and death is essential to ensuring quality of life for Jewish terminally ill patients and their families,” said Ellen Rothberg, President and CEO of VNA HealthCare. “The goals of our upcoming conference are to introduce our newly-accredited Jewish Hospice Program and to educate the community about common end-of-life Jewish beliefs, thinking, practice and cultural values,” she continued.

Workshops and speakers at the free event will include:

· Welcome by David Jacobs, Executive Director Jewish Community Center, and Ellen Rothberg, President and CEO, VNA HealthCare.
· “Chesed shel Emet- Kindness and Truth: Answering the Call of Ultimate Need” by Rabbi Yitchok, Beth David Synagogue and VNA HealthCare’s Jewish Hospice Program
· “The Philosophy of Hospice – Myths and Perceptions” by Tara Green – Director of Hospice, VNA HealthCare
· “How to Decide When Enough is Enough” by Dr. Evan Fox, Palliative Care, Hartford Hospital
· “Family Dynamics in End-of-Life Issues” by Lynn Marcus Cohen, Jewish Family Service
· “The Benefits of Advanced Planning for Your Final Resting Place” by Morton Weinstein, Weinstein Mortuary.
