Luminary Remembrance Service October 25
Residents of Greater Waterbury are invited to remember their deceased loved ones at VNA HealthCare’s Annual Luminary Remembrance Service on Sunday, October 25th at 6:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 16 Church Street, Waterbury.
Held in honor of National Hospice Month, the non-denominational service will remember community members and VNA HealthCare (the Waterbury VNA) hospice patients who have passed away in the past year. During the indoor service, hospice staff will read out names of those being remembered as hundreds of luminaries glow in the church courtyard. Light refreshments will be served at a reception immediately following the service.
According to Lisa Stanley, VNA HealthCare hospice bereavement coordinator, with the approach of cold weather, long nights and the holiday season, many grieving individuals can greatly benefit from the extra support.
“This service provides an opportunity for people to come together not only to honor and remember those who have died, but to support each other in the process,” Stanley said. “By sharing memories, reconnecting, and celebrating the many ways their loved ones have touched them, people can help each other heal as they realize that they’re not alone as they navigate through grief’s uncertainties.”
Stanley said that the service’s location holds extra special meaning as St. John’s Church was the birthplace of the Waterbury VNA in 1903.
Anyone who would like to purchase a luminary or attend the event, should call Lisa Stanley at (203) 575-3603 by October 16th. Proceeds from the sale of luminaries will benefit VNA HealthCare Hospice.
Since 1980, VNA HealthCare Hospice and Palliative Care programs have cared for thousands of terminally ill patients and their families by focusing on quality of life, physical comfort and spiritual support. The program enables patients to live their final days at home, surrounded by family and friends.
