“Angel of Hospice” Awards To Be Bestowed Nov. 19

WATERBURY, CT-VNA HealthCare, Waterbury’s original VNA since 1903, will honor eight local doctors, nurses, and others for their commitment to quality end-of-life care to the Greater Waterbury community at its November 19th “Angel of Hospice” awards reception at the Harold Leever Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.Held in honor of National Hospice Month, VNA HealthCare will present “Angel of Hospice” awards to local individuals who have demonstrated an extraordinary dedication to the hospice philosophy of comfort care. “The program is based on recognizing our health care peers in the Greater Waterbury community whose professionalism and compassion for the terminally ill have made a difference in the lives of hospice patients and their families,” said Donna Cassity, Community Liaison Nurse.The following individuals will be honored as “Angels of Hospice” based on criteria developed by the home care agency’s H.O.P.E. (Hospice, Oncology, and Palliative Expertise) Team: Jan Elwell, APRN, Saint Mary’s Hospital; Valerie Jones-Perkins, Chapel Memorial Funeral Home; Dr. Anamika Katoch, Harold Leever Cancer Center; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Knitting Group; Denise Paradisi, Wolcott View Manor Extended Care Facility; Elaine Patterson, office of Dr. James Hoffman; Dr. Kert Sabbath, Harold Leever Cancer Center. Sponsors include: Two Pour Guys and the Harold Leever Cancer Center.

Since 1980, VNA HealthCare Hospice and Palliative Care programs have cared for thousands of terminally ill patients and their families by focusing on quality of life, physical comfort and spiritual support. The State’s largest in-home hospice program enables patients to live their final days at home, surrounded by family and friends. Last year, the Agency cared for nearly 300 terminally ill individuals in Greater Waterbury.
