A Time for Remembrance and Comfort for Jewish Bereaved

The Emanuel Synagogue and VNA HealthCare, a local home care and hospice agency, invite members of the Jewish community to remember their loved ones at a service of comfort on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 12:30 pm at The Emanuel Synagogue on 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford. The service, entitled Et Lizkor: A Time to Remember, is designed to allow the bereaved to support one another as they grieve the loss of their loved ones.

“The weeks preceding Passover are especially difficult for those who miss their loved ones because this holiday is a time when we are usually surrounded by family and friends,” said Rabbi David Small. “Each year, as we clean the house, cook special food, and prepare for the ritual seder meal, memories are created. We stay in relationship with our loved ones.”

“It is for this reason, to embrace the memories, that we have chosen to pay tribute to those who have died with this caring and supportive service,” added Donna Gordon, social service supervisor of VNA HealthCare Hospice Team.

A bereavement support group offered by The Emanuel Synagogue and VNA HealthCare’s Jewish Hospice program will begin after the Passover holiday.

For additional information and to RSVP for the Et Lizkor: a Time to Remember service or the Jewish Bereavement Support Group please contact Nichol Burris at nburris@vnahealthcare.org or call (860) 493-7328.

Those attending the service are encouraged to bring snapshots or written memories of their loved ones to share on a bulletin board collage.
