VNA HealthCare Receives $65,000 Grant from Walmart Foundation

VNA HealthCare received a $65,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation to support its Meals on Wheels program. The grant, which was given to the non-profit home health care agency through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program, will provide meals to those who need assistance with paying for meals.

The donation was presented to Ellen Rothberg, President and CEO, VNA HealthCare, at the New Britain Avenue store, Hartford, by store manager Irving Barnor.

“The Walmart Foundation is very pleased to support VNA HealthCare and is committed to helping those in need in the communities where we serve,” said Barnor. “Through this grant, we are hopeful that more residents in the greater Hartford and Waterbury areas will receive home delivered nutritious meals, regardless of age or disability status.

“This grant will provide over 14,000 free, home delivered, nutritious meals. Such a partnership of public and private dollars will help ease Connecticut’s pangs of hunger and give our neighbors a better chance of healthy, productive lives,” Rothberg stated.

The contribution to VNA HealthCare was made possible through the Walmart Foundation’s Connecticut State Giving Program. Through this program, the Walmart Foundation supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better. The Walmart Foundation State Giving Program strives to award grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S. In 2008, Walmart stores, Sam's Club locations and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $1.3 million in cash and in-kind donations to local organizations in Connecticut.

From February 2008 through January 2009, Walmart and its domestic and international Foundations awarded more than $423 million in cash and in-kind gifts, an $85.6 million increase over its global giving in the previous year.
