VNA HealthCare Awards Scholarships to Area Nursing Students
VNA HealthCare Inc. awarded five scholarships to area nursing students as part of its Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing gala. The winners were Laura Bauer, a junior at Saint Joseph College; Melissa Brousseau, a sophomore at Central Connecticut State University; Amber Kauffman, a freshman at Capital Community College; Coleen Smart, a junior at the University of Hartford and Lisa Zahina, a senior at Goodwin College.
They accepted their scholarships from Ellen Rothberg, President and CEO of VNA HealthCare at a breakfast held April 16. VNA HealthCare awarded $500 each to the deserving students who were nominated by their schools to encourage and support careers in nursing. VNA HealthCare has awarded over $46,000 in scholarships since the Nightingale program began in 2003.
The Nightingale Awards event is a recognition program to be held for the eighth time this year in Hartford. Representing more than 31 health care institutions, 103 nurses will be honored at a dinner for 500 to be held on May 6.
