Local Clinicians Invited to Celebrate Nursing Week at Greater Waterbury Nursing Consortium

The Greater Waterbury Nursing Consortium, a group advocating the role of nursing within the community, invites all local nurses and nursing students to attend its eighth annual Nurses Lead the Way celebration in honor of National Nursing Week. This free event will be held on Wednesday, May 12th from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Fine Arts Center Mainstage Theater at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.

“The goal of our group is to serve Waterbury and its surrounding communities by focusing on nursing as a profession of first choice,” explained Diane Hardt, event co-coordinator.

Co-coordinator Judy Becker stated that the May event will focus on helping clinicians care for themselves through the challenges and stresses they encounter in their lives.

The program will commence with an hour-long reception during which attendees will enjoy light refreshments, entertainment and free chair massages. The highlight of the event will be a presentation by University of Hartford professor of nursing, Linda Barile, Ph.D., RN.

Entitled “Caring for Yourself for a Healthier Tomorrow: Keys to Stress Management,” Dr. Barile’s program will guide nurses toward a new, refreshing way to think about themselves, their priorities, their stress, and the individuals who cause stress in their lives.

In keeping with the Healthier Tomorrow theme, The Greater Waterbury Nursing Consortium will present a donation to HAVEN (Health Assistance Intervention Education Network), a non-profit corporation that provides confidential consultation and support to healthcare professionals facing health concerns relating to alcoholism, substance abuse, behavioral or mental health issues, and / or physical illness.

The evening’s festivities will conclude with free raffles, including grand prize gift certificates to a local day spa.

Nurses and nursing students must register for this free event by calling (203) 596-8777, faxing (203) 596-8793 or via e-mail to langellottic@wcsu.edu by Friday, April 30th. Please indicate your name, phone number and the number of seats you are reserving.

The event’s sponsors include: Naugatuck Valley Community College; Saint Mary’s Hospital, University of Connecticut Waterbury, VNA Health at Home, VNA HealthCare, Inc., Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury Public Health Department, and Western CT State University at Waterbury.
