Village At East Farms Recognizes Two Agency Nurses

Two nurses from local home care agency VNA HealthCare were recognized at the first annual Benchmark in Nursing awards ceremony held recently in Waterbury. Cheryl Grande, RN of Waterbury and Carla Larocque, RN, of Watertown received official citations from the Connecticut State General Assembly: “Your invaluable service as a nurse for the Waterbury area is commendable. The region has been honored by the differences nurses make every day.”

Cheryl has worked for the agency for 23 years and does home health care for residents at the Village at East Farms, Waterbury. She is married and has two children, Allison and Steven, who have both also worked at the Village. Cheryl was proud to say that her son Steven is following Mom into nursing. He is a nursing student at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. She was nominated by her supervisor Sandy Robinson who praised her for her outstanding clinical skills and dedication to her patients.

Carla has been a nurse with VNA HealthCare for one year and was nominated by her supervisor Pat Bousaada who said, “Carla is an excellent nurse who is very conscientious and caring. For a new RN, she is exceptional in her knowledge and her clinical skills.” She previously was a homecare aide with the agency for three years and went to school part-time to earn her nursing degree from St. Vincent’s College, Bridgeport. She is married with four children who sacrificed, Carla said, so that she could become a nurse. She loves what she does and looks forward to helping her patients feel better every day. Her mother, Jane Serra, who is also a VNA HealthCare nurse, inspired Carla to become a nurse.
